Youth represent a special component of society and hold an important position throughout the history of the nation. Nowadays, facing new requirements of constructing and defending the Fatherland, authorities at all levels and branches need to strongly promote the youth’s role. For their part, the youth need to prove themselves a truly vanguard in society, under the leadership of the Party.
The Communist Party of Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh have always grasped and assessed properly the youth’s important role in the Party and nation’s revolution. Youth represent a huge force of society, “…the pillars of the nation, future owners of the country… one of the decisive factors to success of the cause of industrialization and modernization, international integration and socialist construction”. To uphold the pioneering role of youth, party committees, authorities, and youth unions at all levels need to perform the following tasks thoroughly:
Firstly, strengthening education, heightening the youth’s awareness and responsibility for the cause of building and defending the nation in the new situation. It is through education that youth are endowed with patriotism; political stance, sense of law; revolutionary ethics and healthy lifestyle; ambitions and aspirations for a prosperous country; knowledge, health, social skills, professional abilities, modern science and technology acquisition.
Secondly, promoting youth’s role in socio-economic development. Thereby, it is necessary to mobilize and encourage youth to study and conduct scientific research, carry out production activities. In each locality, youth unions must concretize movements “Youth join hands to build new rural areas”, “Youth join in building urban civilization” in accordance with features of each locality to ensure high feasibility. At the same time, it is important to proactively and actively mobilize youth for voluntary activities for the community.
Thirdly, to care for and foster pioneering and voluntary role of young people in safeguarding the Fatherland, preserving security, politics, and public order and safety. Following Uncle Ho’s teaching, youth in the armed forces must proactively study, research to master modern weapons and equipment, conduct thorough training and maintain a high degree of combat readiness; proactively participate in disaster prevention and relief; be in the forefront of safeguarding independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity; protect the Party, State, people and socialist regime.
Fourthly, promoting and appreciating young people’s role in labouring, creating, mastering science and technology, and products for socioeconomic development, defense and security. With the motto “where there are youth and youth activities, there is creation”, cadres of youth unions need to encourage their members to step up “young people’s creation” movement in each field and object; encourage them to do research, set forth initiatives, technical innovation, and apply scientific and technological advances into production and daily life to enhance people’s spiritual and material life.
Fifthly, to pay attention to building strong Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union; to uphold self-study and self-training of youth. Party committees and authorities at all levels need to attach importance to building strong youth unions to unify and gather youth of all strata, consider this a strategic mission, relating to the success of revolution. Accordingly, it is necessary to pay attention to leading and directing youth work; training and educating youth to become both “red and expert” as Uncle Ho’s teaching. Youth unions, meanwhile, must always self-renovate, self-rectify to be comprehensively strong, truly a socialist school for youth; promote self-study and self-training of youth following Ho Chi Minh’s moral example and style aimed at creating a generation of young people who have “Good Ethics – Brilliant Minds – Big Ambitions”; help them realize their role, position and mission to the nation.
