The Centre for Defence and Security Education under Hai Phong University was founded on October 9th, 2003. Its task is to educate students of the University and other ones on defence and security knowledge. Over the past 13 years, the Centre has held 108 training courses for more than 120,000 students with good results, being highly appreciated by the University and other ones, proving the credibility of the Centre.
To achieve those accomplishments, the Centre has focused on closely working with functional organs of the Military Region 3 and the University to strengthen cadre staff, complete the organizational structure of the Centre, its departments and divisions, and upgrade its facilities.
Annually, it proactively grasps the recruitment of new students of its partner universities and colleges to make plan for the whole year, plans for periods, plans for training, supplementary activities and student management. Together with exchanging information and grasping the situation of the University and its partners, the Centre regularly holds the Conference on Defence and Security Education Partnership. In the Conference, the Centre and its partners collaborate and discuss with each other on training duration, quantity of student to be trained, shortcomings in teaching-learning organization, direction and management, and support work. In spite of the large quantity of students training in the Centre (ranging from 10,000 to 12,000 per year), it is always proactive in receiving, managing, educating, training and transferring students to its partners.
The Centre has attached great importance to the combination between theory and practice, theory and reality. To this end, it has directed Training Division and Departments to keep close to the contents and curriculums of the Ministry of Education and Training, and design training contents and methods appropriate for each group of students, focusing on increasing practice and supplementary activities and field trips. Accordingly, the teaching staff have carefully considered groups of students and their majors to make appropriate lesson plans. Lectures have been always updated and illustrated with pictures, photos and videos. During the lecture, instructors actively raise the issues and make suggestions for students' discussion. Notably, the instructors have connected knowledge with reality, defence and security knowledge with students’ majors, helping students clearly understand defence security knowledge in the connection with their majors. Moreover, the Centre has organized various field trips, attaching great importance to making use of library and traditional hall to serve students in break time and on holidays.
The Centre has also attached great importance to a close combination between studying and disciplining, and to the management and disciplining of students. To this end, before students came to study at the Centre, it proactively worked with its partners to hold familiarization courses for students. Upon students' arrival, they are quickly divided into companies and platoons to meet the requirements of class management and organization, and disciplining. Companies have seriously maintained daily and weekly regulations and those on studying and disciplining right in the beginning days for students to quickly adapt themselves to military environment. Alongside promoting the role of cadres in charge, the Centre has also sent its instructors to companies, selecting good students to be in charge of platoons and sections, informing all levels about methods of management to achieve a consensus on students’ awareness and actions. A part from severely maintaining regulations, promoting the exemplification of cadres, the Centre has attached great importance to daily inspection and emulation, promoting the effectiveness of system of notice board and radio to timely applaud typical units and individuals and encourage the spirit of emulation among units and individuals.
Over the past years, most of the students after finishing the defence and security program at the Centre have made a change in many aspects, especially the awareness of the defence and security task, being equipped with discipline, a sense of responsibility, collective lifestyle and necessary living skills, ready to take part in the Homeland protection.
