Upholding heroic tradition, Regiment 43 focuses on improving combat strength

In response to the urgent requirement of training troops to reinforce the battlefields in the resistance war against the US for national salvation, on July 29, 1967, Corps 127 (the predecessor of Infantry Regiment 43, Division 395, Military Region 3 now) was established. After 55 years of building, combat, and development, generations of its officers and soldiers have always stayed united, overcome difficulties, and successfully completed assigned tasks to make its tradition of "united, brave, resilient, and creative". For its outstanding achievements, the Regiment was awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces by the State and many noble awards.

To meet the requirements and tasks of building and defending the Fatherland in the new period and realise the Party and State's policy on building the Army "revolutionary, regular, elite, increasingly modernised", for the past years, the Party Committee and Command of the Regiment have led and directed the synchronous implementation of solutions to improve its overall quality and combat strength for successfully completing all assigned tasks.

Through practice of task performance, the Regiment has drawn a number of lessons, and also the solutions that are being implemented effectively as follow:

First of all, the Regiment focuses on conducting political education, ideological leadership, building political steadfastness and strong will in performing tasks for its cadres and soldiers, and considers this the most important solution. Accordingly, the Regiment directs its units to conduct political education seriously, and effectively implement the Project of "Innovating political education at the unit in the new period”; brief and inform the above resolutions and directives, tasks and traditions of the unit; expose the subversive plots of hostile forces, etc, thereby, raising the awareness and responsibility, building solid political courage, belief and motivation for its cadres and soldiers.

In addition, it closely monitors and grasps its troops’ ideological situation; promotes mutual affection and assistance among soldiers to promptly detect the ideological situations arise; seriously adhere to the regime of Political, spiritual, and cultural day. Democratic talk, survey, and “feedback box” are extra measures conducted by the regiment to get the thoughts and wishes of its troops and early solve the problems arise. Moreover, it coordinates with the locality where it is stationed to get and manage the social relationships of its servicemen, and communicates with soldiers’ families for coordination in the management and education of its troops. Besides, it offers good chances of promotion for cadres with enthusiasism and good performance of tasks; provides preferential policies for Military and Military’s families, together with other incentives, etc. As a result, 100% of its officers and soldiers show solid political will, stay committed to in their work, and are keen to accept and complete their assigned tasks well.

In order to improve its overall quality and combat strength for successfully completing its assigned tasks, the Regiment focuses on improving the quality of training and exercises. Deeply grasping the above resolutions, directives and instructions on combat training, especially Conclusion No. 60-KL/QUTW, dated January 18, 2019 of the Central Military Commission on continuing to implement Resolution No. 765-NQ/QUTW, Resolution No. 280-NQ/DU of the Party Committee of Military Region 3, Resolution No. 41-NQ/DU of the Party Committee of Division 395 on "Improving the quality of training in the 2013 – 2020 period and beyond”, every year, the Regiment’s Party Committee issues a thematic resolution on training and thoroughly brief to make its troops firmly grasp the training tasks, contents and objectives. Knowing that cadres are key to the improvement of training quality, the Regiment holds training for 100% of its cadres before each training season, focusing on in-person, on-site and peer to peer training.

Along with careful preparation in personnel, the Regiment also makes active preparation in facilities, visual aids, learning tools, training grounds, books, lesson plans, and promotes innovation of training tools. Up to now, the Regiment has built a full system of models, learning tools, training grounds that are well designed for training all forms of tactics, and live-firing tactical drills at battalion level. This is a favourable factor and condition for the Regiment to improve the quality of training, exercises and combat readiness.

During the training process, the Regiment adheres to the motto "basic, practical, thorough"; attaches importance to synchronous and intensive training; creatively applies viewpoints, principles, and combinations in training. At the same time, it regularly maintains the plan of training contests at the platoon and company level daily, at the battalion level weekly, and at the regiment level monthly to check and evaluate the actual results of training. The regiment attaches importance to physical training, long-distance and heavy load marching in all terrain and weather conditions in order to improve troops' health, mobility, endurance and toughness. In addition, the Regiment actively prepares and joins in the exercises held by the superior levels; periodically conducts command-and-agency drills, directs general round tactical drills with live-firing at all levels. As a result, its training and drill quality has been improved steadily.

Besides improving the quality of training and exercises, the Regiment strictly adhere to the orders and regimes of combat readiness. Together with regularly reviewing, adjusting and supplementing the system of combat documents pursuant to the above orders and instructions, it strictly maintains and implements the regimes of duty, reconnaissance, communication, patrolling, and security guard. The units on combat readiness duty always ensure the availability of 100% of their troops, forces and vehicles, and are ready to move when ordered; thoroughly practice plans for combat, natural disaster prevention and control, search and rescue, and participate in disaster relief, and protection of people's lives and properties.

The promotion of regular construction, discipline management and training has been identified by the Regiment as the "key" to generate solidarity, unity, and collective strength in performing tasks. In order to realise this goal, the Regiment regularly coordinates with functional agencies of Military Region 3 to conduct legal and discipline education and brief the situation of discipline observance of the Army, etc., in order to build awareness, solidarity, mutual assistance, and good sense of self-discipline for its troops. Its agencies and units maintain and implement strictly, synchronously and uniformly daily and weekly regimes, together with regulations on troop management and traffic safety. During the implementation, the Regiment attaches great importance to promoting the exemplary role of cadres at all levels, building the image of exemplary cadres who always keep their words in parallel with their actions, wholeheartedly instruct soldiers from every single thing, act to their roles and responsibilities, and are ready to receive and complete all assigned tasks. Over the years, the Regiment has witnessed no serious case of violations, militarism, and deserter. Its normal disciplinary violation rate drops to less than 0.2%.

In addition, the Regiment focuses on innovating and improving the quality of logistics and technical supplies, maintaining sufficient reserves for combat situations; boosting production to improve living standards and health of its troops, and keeping good maintenance of weapon and equipment in order to supply for tasks opportunely and synchronously.

With those drastic and synchronous measures, in 2021, the Regiment was awarded the "Excellent Training Unit" Flag by the Ministry of National Defence, and "Leading Unit of the Determined to win emulation movement" Flag by Military Region 3. These are meaningful outcomes to celebrate its 55th annivesary of its traditional day (July 29, 1967 – July 29, 2022) and a good foundation for its officers and soldiers to strive for further achievements in task performance in the new situation, and firmly protect the Northeast region of the Fatherland.
