Missile Regiment 284 (Air-Defence Division No.365) was founded on March 11th 1967, sharply when the US Imperialists escalated the war to the North using their air forces and navy. Fully aware of its burdening tasks, right after being founded, it both developed force and fought to protect the North airspace. It has recorded remarkable achievements, contributing to the common accomplishments of the Service during the war against the U.S. invasion for national salvation. The Regiment is now tasked with training, combat readiness to firmly protect the Homeland airspace in the North - Northeast direction. To successfully fulfill the assigned task, the Party Committee and commanders of the Regiment have frequently updated information of the situation and proactively carried out the tasks, of which building comprehensively strong unit is a focal one. Accordingly, awareness and political stance of cadres and troops have been unceasingly raised; the task of training and combat readiness has made positive changes; logistics, technical support, discipline practice and regularity building have witnessed profound development. The Unit has successfully fulfilled its assigned tasks. During the process of building comprehensively strong unit, the Regiment has drawn up valuable lessons that it is adopting effectively.

First and foremost, focusing on building political strong unit to enhance combined and combat strength. To fulfill it, the Regiment has attached great importance to renewing political education and improving its quality in accordance with the Project “Renewing political education in units in the new period”. It has focused on educating its troops to grasp the Party’s defence and military viewpoints and guidelines specified in directives and resolutions, particularly the Resolution of the 12th National Party Congress, the Central Resolution No.8 (11th tenure) on the Strategy to defend the Homeland in the new situation, and the Resolution of the 10th Army Party Congress. Accordingly, its troops fully understand their political task, opponents, hostile forces’ plots and tricks, heighten their vigilance and combat readiness. Moreover, the Regiment has also attached great importance to educating glorious traditions of the Army and the Unit, thus improving its cadres and troops confidence in weapons, equipment and the tactics and arts of air-defence operations in the new condition.

The Regiment has directed its organs and units to strengthen the work of anticipating, managing and orientating troops’ ideology, timely and resolutely solving emerging issues. It steps up the “Determined to Win” Emulation Movement in line with the implementation of the 12th Politburo’s Directive No.5-CT/TW, Directive No.87-CT/QUTW of the Central Military Commission Standing Committee on acceleration of studying and following Ho Chi Minh’s ideology, morality and lifestyle, and campaigns, particularly the Campaign “Promoting tradition, devoting talent, deserving to be Uncle Ho’s Soldiers”. In this regard, the implementation of the Directive No.5-CT/TW has been closely directed; particularly criteria have been standardized according to functions and tasks of each unit, and duty of each personnel. As a result, over the past years, 100% of cadres and troops maintain firm political stance, absolutely loyal to the Party’s leadership, highly determined and ready to undertake and successfully fulfil all assigned tasks.

Second, actively renewing and improving the quality of training, level and capability of combat readiness. Thoroughly grasping and seriously implementing the Resolution No.765-NQ/QUTW, dated December 20th 2012, by the Central Military Commission, the Resolution No.220-NQ/ĐU, dated March 27th 2013, by the Party Committee of the Division on “Enhancing the quality of training in the period of 2013 - 2020 and beyond”, the Party Committee of the Regiment issued the special Resolution on training with guidelines and measures to renew and enhance the quality of training.

As for training, the Regiment has directed its organs and units to follow the guideline “basic, practical, steadfast, safe, economical”, attach significant importance to synchronous and specialized training, and make it relevant to subjects, areas, requirements and the task of safeguarding the airspace. In addition, it has focused on the breakthrough point: “Renewing and enhancing the quality of combat training, particularly training to enhance unit cadres’ combined competence, their capabilities to organize and conduct training in general, and training to master C125-2TM missile”. In addition, the Regiment has also intensified training to improve the capability of elements in each combat team. Since 2006, the Regiment has repeatedly been awarded the title “Good training unit” for 11 years.

Third, well conducting the work of technical and logistic support. Equipped with modern weapons and missiles, the Party Committee and the Commanders of the Regiment attach great importance to the work of technical support to meet the requirements set by both regular and irregular tasks. Organs and units seriously comply with the regulations on weapons and technical equipment maintenance and improvement to extend their lives; frequently grasp the quantity and the quality of weapons and equipment to facilitate the task of training and combat readiness. Annually, the Unit directs its Technical Department to hold training course for technicians on new and difficult contents, such as information technology, digitalized innovated equipment, skills to use and maintain complicated parts. Also, it accelerates the emulation movement to encourage initiatives and technical innovation in each team. Those practical activities help improve knowledge of technicians. Units have repaired 75% of popular breakdowns by themselves, and the technical coefficient always exceeds the standard from 0.4% - 0.7%, ensuring that weapons be ready for combat and training.

As for the work of logistic support, together with ensuring the reserve quantity of material at levels, the Regiment have proactively built the support posture for tasks and combat readiness in all situations. For regular logistic support, it has both received the supply from superior units and maintained self-production. Up to now, the whole Regiment has supplied itself 100% of vegetable, 80% of meat and 45% of fish for daily food demands, successfully fulfilling the targets in the Regiment Party Committee’s resolution. Moreover, it has mobilized all resources to build and reinforce barracks of units, preserving the surrounding environment, ensuring that the percentage of healthy troops is always over 98%.

Promoting the tradition of over 50 years building, fighting and maturing, cadres and troops of the Missile Regiment 284 commit themselves to strengthening solidarity, improving knowledge, striving to build comprehensively strong unit, making contribution to enhancing the total quality and the combat strength, being ready to firmly safeguard the Homeland airspace.
