Achievements of the “Northeast worker Soldiers” on the labour and production front
The Northeast Corporation is a defence-economic enterprise under the Ministry of National Defence, operating mainly in the fields of coal mining, processing, and trading; civil and industrial construction, port service, water transport, and conducting military and defence tasks. During its 30-year journey of construction, development, and growth, the Corporation has encountered many difficulties and challenges, as production requires large investments in equipment, and technology is highly specific; its employees mainly work in the mines, where their work is heavy, toxic, and very risky, etc. However, promoting the tradition of "Uncle Ho's Soldiers", solidarity, discipline, creativity, and enterprise, it has always fulfilled all tasks well and ceaselessly developed to become a large enterprise of the Military. With prestige and a leading brand in the field of mineral exploitation, it has earned the trust and highly appreciated by the domestic and foreign business communities. The "Northeast worker Soldiers" have left a strong imprint on the labour and production front, contributing to affirming the prestige and political responsibility of the Military in combining economic development with national defence tasks, Homeland construction and defence. For its outstanding achievements, the Corporation has been conferred many noble awards by the State and the Military. In 2023, it was awarded the "Leading unit in the Determined to win Emulation movement" Flag by the Ministry of National Defence and was ranked as one of the highly profitable businesses of the Military.

To achieve the above results, first of all, the Party Committee and the Board of Directors of the Corporation focus their leadership on strengthening solidarity and unity, promoting political determination, overcoming all difficulties and challenges for integration and development. Thoroughly grasping the resolutions and directives of the Party, the Central Military Commission, and the Ministry of National Defence on combining economy with national defence, focusing on Resolution No. 820-NQ/QUTW, dated 17 December 2021 of the Central Military Commission on "Leading the tasks of production, economic construction combined with national defence of the Military until 2030", the Corporation focuses on reviewing and improving all its operations, i.e. restructuring, strategic planning, production and business strategies, modernisation strategies, market development, partnership, etc. At the same time, it directs its member companies to concretise those strategies into their resolutions, directives, and implementation plans with appropriate and feasible solutions, roadmaps, and steps. In particular, learning from the lessons drawn on its development path, the Corporation always attaches importance to strengthening the leadership and direction of Party committees at all levels for all activities and promoting political and ideological education to foster a unity in awareness and responsibility, solidarity, and consensus among its cadres and employees, especially in difficult times and at turning points of the Corporation. Thereby, it has generated and promoted a synergy from the employees to motivate them to overcome all difficulties, and successfully complete their assigned tasks.
In response to the requirements of development and integration, the Corporation focuses on organisational restructuring and improving operational efficiency. Thoroughly grasping and implementing Conclusion No. 1815-KL/QUTW, dated 3 March 2023 of the Central Military Commission on continuing to implement Resolution No. 425-NQ/QUTW, dated 18 May 2017 "On arrangement, innovation and improvement of operational efficiency of military enterprises by 2020 and the following years" and the Project on restructuring military enterprises in the period 2021 - 2025 of the Ministry of National Defence, the Corporation has focused on organisational restructuring to make it more efficient, meeting the requirements and tasks. Accordingly, its 19 departments and 22 member units have been merged into 12 and 14 ones, respectively. The organisational structure of its member units have also been streamlined to make it more efficient and effective. At the same time, it promotes innovation in corporate governance, especially the leadership thinking, working and evaluation methods; closely combines the centralised and unified management of the Corporation's Board of Directors with increased decentralisation and empowerment; linking the responsibility of leaders and commanders with production and business results; taking revenue, profit, working environment, income of labourers as indicators to evaluate the development of the companies and the capacity of the leading cadres, etc.

In order to maintain its fast and steady growth rate, besides improving scientific production management, the Corporation has proactively imported suitable types of coal and diversified supply sources, built scientific and effective blending formulas to meet customer needs. At the same time, it invested all resources in the modernisation of facilities and warehouse systems; promoted the technical initiatives and improvements; upgraded and modernised coal mining technology processes to increase labour productivity, output, and strengthens labour safety and hygiene. By means of such measures, for recent years, the Corporation has always excellently completed its assigned tasks. In 2023, it produced 7.1 million tons of coal, with over VND 28,000 billion of revenue, paying the budget VND 4,093 billion. Its pre-tax profit reached VND 750.6 billion, and the average income of employees was over VND 20 million/person/month.
Implementing the goal of “stable and sustainable development”, the Corporation focuses on developing a contingent of highly capable managers and skilled workers. Recognising that human resources are the decisive factor, the Corporation has reviewed and proposed several measures to improve the qualifications and capacity of its employees, especially for the ones holding important and specific positions; offered favourable incentives to employ the good and young personnel. At the same time, it actively conducts on-site training, re-fresher courses and work competitions to improve skills, expertise, qualification and profession for its staff. In addition, the Corporation pays attractive remunerative packages and constantly improves their living standards to make them happy, enthusiastic and committed to their work.
Together with boosting production and business, the Corporation has also performed well military and defence tasks; maintained military training for subjects in a serious manner in accordance with regulations. It focuses on building and training the reserve forces, militia and self-defence forces to make them ready to perform tasks when required. It regularly coordinates closely with local Party committees and authorities in the area to perform well civil defence tasks, effectively respond to non-traditional security challenges, promptly overcome the consequences caused by natural disasters, help people and localities quickly restore production and stabilise their lives.

Promoting the quality and tradition of "Uncle Ho's Soldiers", the Corporation regularly implements good policy work and social security; accelerates the emulation movement of "The Military joins hands to build new rural areas"; the movement "The Military joins hands for the poor, leaving no one behind", ... with practical and effective actions. In order to make these movements effective, the Corporation and its member units strengthen education and dissemination to its cadres, employees, and laborers to enhance their sense of responsibility, duty, humanity, the tradition of "Uncle Ho's soldiers" on the economic front; builds close relationships with the people; closely coordinates with localities to build inter-village and inter-commune roads; builds cultural houses, medical clinics, charity houses, gratitude houses, and great solidarity houses; supports Vietnamese Heroic Mothers; provides free medical examinations and medicine for policy beneficiaries, ethnic groups, etc. with a total value of up to thousands of billions of VND for the past 30 years. These activities are of profound political and social significance, earning the trust from the people in the Party, the regime and the Military. As a result, it has always been supported by local Party committees, authorities, departments, branches, unions, and the people in its production and business operations and in its execution of military and national defence tasks.
Promoting the glorious tradition of 30 years of construction, development and growth, in the coming time, the Corporation will focus on implementing its vision and strategy for production and business development; continue to perfect the organisational structure from the parent company to subsidiaries and member units in the streamlining, effectiveness and efficient direction; accelerate investment projects in coal mining, processing, import and trading; invest in mining and processing other minerals, such as titanium, bauxite, etc. At the same time, it will focus on market strategy; enhance business administration and digital transformation, etc., in order to improve production and business efficiency, and maintain the position, prestige and brand of "Northeast Soldier" in production and economic development combined with national defence in the new period.
