Vietnam Army’s founding anniversary observed at home and abroad

Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan extended her best wishes for health and happiness for a delegation of Truong Son war veterans at a reception in Hanoi on December 22.

Throughout its 16 years of operation from 1959 to 1975, Truong Son soldiers made significant contributions to the country’s struggle against the US invaders for national liberation and unification. The soldiers established many legendary feats of arms across the Truong Son – Ho Chi Minh trail.

In the peacetime, the Truong Son war veterans still make contributions to the national construction. Since the Truong Son–Ho Chi Minh Trail’s Tradition Association was established in 2011, the association has raised money to build over 1,700 houses, and support its member to overcome difficulties.

An exhibition entitled ‘President Ho Chi Minh and the People’s Armed Forces’ opened in Thua Thien–Hue province the same day. More than 300 photos, documents and objects on display recounted the glorious history of the Vietnam People’s Army as well as Uncle Ho’s sentiment towards the forces.

On the occasion, Lang Son provincial leaders have visited and presented gifts to military units stationing in Cao Loc and Chi Lang districts and Lang Son city. The local authorities have also visited families of policy beneficiaries and soldiers.

Thousands of people from across the country have flocked to the grave of General Vo Nguyen Giap in Vung Chua–Dao Yen area, Quang Binh province to pay tribute to the Elderly Brother of the Vietnam People’s Army.

A special music programme will be staged at Military Hospital 108 in Hanoi tonight as part of the ‘Bring Music to Hospitals’ series. Songs and dances at the event are expected to bring joy to patients and doctors at the hospital.

The Vietnam Embassy in Laos hosted a celebration to mark the 70th anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army on December 22 with the participation of high-ranking leaders of Lao Party, Government, National Assembly and Army.

The same ceremony was also organised by the Vietnam Embassy in Cambodia. Speaking at the event, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence General Tia Banh expressed his sincere thanks to the Vietnamese Party, Government and Army to help liberate Cambodia from Pol Pot’s genocidal regime.

At the same event held by the Vietnamese community in Germany on December 21, the Berlin-Brandenburg War Veterans' Association donated more than EUR 3,600 to support their fatherland’s sea and islands.
