US Secretary of Defence Ashton Carter will pay an official visit to Vietnam from May 31 to June 2 at the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart Phung Quang Thanh.
The two ministers will discuss how to enhance bilateral defence cooperation as well as regional and international issues of mutual concern, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Le Hai Binh said during a regular press conference held in Hanoi on May 28.
Vietnam and the US established diplomatic ties in 1995. The comprehensive partnership established during State President Truong Tan Sang’s visit to the US in July 2013 has created a framework for reinforcing the two countries’ affiliation in various fields, such as politics, the economy, security, maritime capacity, climate change response and environmental protection, education, and human rights.
