Top legislator starts US official visit

National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung left New York for Boston on September 3 (Vietnam time), beginning his official visit to the US after attending the 4th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament.

The visit is made at the invitations of President Pro Tempore of the US Senate Patrick Leahy, Speaker of the US House of Representatives John Boehner and US Senator John McCain.

During the 4th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, the Vietnamese top legislator delivered a speech at the opening session, in which he affirmed the Vietnamese NA’s active and responsible participation in implementing Sustainable Development Goals.

He also joined other legislative leaders worldwide in a general debate with the theme “Placing democracy at the service of peace and sustainable development: building the world the people want ”.

On the sideline of the conference, NA Chairman Hung had bilateral meetings with his counterparts from a number of countries, leaders of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly and the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union .

He presided over a grand banquet celebrating the 70th anniversary of Vietnam’s August Revolutionary and National Day (September 2) at the UN headquarters.

The NA Chairman also visited the New York Stock Exchange , the One World Trade Centre and the National September 11 Memorial & Museum in New York.
