Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung left the Haitan capital Port-au-Prince capital on March 29 (Vietnam time), concluding the last leg of an overseas tour which previously took him to the Netherlands and Cuba.

At the third nuclear security summit in the Netherlands, a Vietnamese delegation led by PM Dung attended seven plenary sessions and recommended eight out of the 15 initiatives at conferences discussing nuclear information security, and the establishment of training and support centres, among others.

The leader showed his strong will, sense of responsibility and insightful viewpoints which were highly acclaimed by world leaders.

His activities not only tightened mutual understanding and political trust but also propelled links between Vietnam and countries around the world, particularly in core and emerging issues concerning national and global interests.

Following the success of the second nuclear security summit in the Republic of Korea in 2012, his presence once again greatly impressed the international community, with Vietnam hailed by many as a responsible member which has proactively contributed to common global efforts to minimise risks to nuclear security and safety.

His bilateral meetings have helped improve Vietnam’s role, prestige and status in the international arena, stepping up its win-win partnership with other nations on the road to integrating into the global economy.

At the talks with President of the Cuban State Council and Council of Ministers Raul Castro Ruz, both sides reaffirmed their determination to deepen fraternal solidarity, traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba.

They reached consensus on bolstering two-way ties in fields of their strength such as trade, agriculture, electronics-telecommunications, energy, health care and bio-technology.

At working sessions with other Cuban leaders, both sides stressed the importance of strengthening consultations and partnership between the two Parties, Governments and peoples, with a priority given to economic connections.

While in Haiti, PM Dung held talks with his counterpart Laurent Salvador Lamothe, during which they underscored the need to develop economic and cultural ties to a level that matches their potential and expectations.

Both nations will facilitate consultations on regional and global issues while working closely at multilateral forums. They will assist each other to further strengthen bonds between Haiti and the East Asia, and between Vietnam and the Latin America – Caribbean.

The two sides pledged to nurture two-way trade and investment on the basis of equality and mutual benefit.

The two PMs later signed the Vietnam – Haiti joint statement and witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on joint energy activities.
