General Phung Quang Thanh offers incense to General Vo Nguyen Giap

In Late General Vo Nguyen Giap’s residence at 30 Hoang Dieu, Hanoi, General Thanh offered incense to General Vo Nguyen Giap and expressed a token of gratitude to the eldest brother of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) for his great contributions to the country and the local people, especially to the resounding Dien Bien Phu Campaign 60 years ago.
General Thanh discussed with General Vo Nguyen Giap’s two sons on the works relating to the resting place of General Vo Nguyen Giap in Vung Chua-Yen Island in Quang Binh province to ensure safety at the place and favourable conditions for local people to pay homage to him.
In his talk with General Nguyen Chi Thanh’s family, the Defence Minister laid stress on his contributions to the anti-French and American resistance war. He recalled that it was General Nguyen Chi Thanh’s sharp-edged commentaries that encouraged troops on the battlefields.

Having offered incense to Late General Hoang Van Thai, the first General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, General Thanh expressed his hope that the general’s family would provide more documents on the general to the Vietnam Military History Museum to later educate younger generations of the glorious tradition of the army and important contributions of General Hoang Van Thai to the army and the nation.
Also in the day, General Thanh offered incense to Senior Lieutenant General Pham Ngoc Mau, the former Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics of the VPA and former Political Commissar of Brigade 351 in the Dien Bien Phu Campaign; General Van Tien Dung, former Minister of National Defence; Major General Hoang Sam, former Commander of Brigade 304 who died on Tri-Thien battlefield in 1968; General Le Trong Tan, former Commander of Brigade 312 which opened the Dien Bien Phu Campaign with the attack on Him Lam; General Chu Huy Man; Major General Le Quang Ba; General Doan Khue and former Commander of Brigade 308 Vuong Thua Vu.
