Gia Lai is a moutainous province. With its border and strategic position, Gia Lai has long been a target for sabotages of hostile forces. Being aware of the matter, over the past years, its Provincial Party Committee, People’s Council and People Committee have set out a number of guidelines, solutions for building its all people defence, people security and people’s border guard potentials and concretized them into resolutions, directives, and action plans for each period, implementing them with focal points and consideration of local conditions.

Notably, defence and security education has been maintained and gained realistic results; there have been significant development in strengthening defensive areas and building political-spiritual and military potentials; political system at grassroots level have been consolidated; combat plans have frequently supplemented, adjusted in line with the evlolution of the situations; aggregate quality and combat strength of the provincial armed forces have been improved, meeting the requirements of defending the area of responsibility in the new situation.
To build its national defence posture strong, meeting the requirements of Homeland protection in the new situation, the following solutions have been carried out by the province:
First, propagating to provincial cadres, party members and its people the Party’s viewpoints on national defence and Homeland protection, particularly the Resolution of the 12th National Party Congress and the resolution of the 15th Provincial Party Congress (2015 – 2020 tenure). On the basis of analyzing and assessing the situation, and grasping its defence and security mission, the province has strengthened its leadership, direction and education for cadres, party members and people of all strata so that they raise their vigilance and actively counter “peaceful evolution” plot of hostile forces; effectively blocking sabotage of reactionaries; implementing a number of favourable policies on ethnics and religion; making favorable conditions for the bordered, ethnics and minority people to live.
Second, paying attention to building, consolidating political system at grassroots level; building firm people’s heart and mind posture. Political system at grassroots level, particularly in the border, remoted and ethnic minority people areas are critical important to spreading the Party’s guidelines and viewpoints, and the State’s law and policies to people. Being aware of the issue, the provicial party committee has strengthened its leadership and directed its junior levels to train and enhance the quality of their cadres as required.
Third, boosting socio-economic development and strengthening defence and security to set base for building firm people’s defence and people’s security. In order to remove Gia Lai out of the poor and under-developed province list, the Resolution of the 15th provincial party congress stated that: the province would mobilize all resources, make the best use of its potentials to speed up economic growth in parallel with renewing growth models; modernizing infrastructure system, particularly in remoted and revolutionary areas; speeding up the building of new style rural areas and social-cultural development; improve material and spiritual life of people; narrowing the gap and living standard among strata of people; striving to build Gia Lai a fast and sustainably developing province in the nothern region of Central Highland.
The province always attaches its socio-economic development with defence and security consolidation. All infrastructure projects are carefully consulted by defence and security experts so that socio-economic development is closey tied with defence and security consolidation, meeting the demand in building defensive posture.
Fourth, enhancing the quality and combat strength of the provincial armed forces. The province focuses on leading, consolidating the organization and staff of its armed forces to ensure the appropriate scale between regular forces, reserve and self-defence forces, ready to fulfil all assigned missions in any situation. Besides, the province also carries out the regulation on collaboration among forces, namely military, public security, and border guard in accordance with the Decree 77/2010/ND-CP of the Government, contributing to firmly protecting the defensive area of the province in any situations.
