In our history of national construction and defence, as a small country located adjacent to big countries with hegemonic ambition, Vietnam had to deal and counter against strong powers aiming to invade and conquer the country numerous times. Through the ups and downs of the history, most of the Vietnam’s feudal dynasties succeeded in maintaining independence, peace and self-control with their resilience and indomitable spirit.

45 years ago, in late 1972, under the leadership of Vietnam Communist Party, our military and people came out victorious after conducting an air defense campaign against U.S. Air Force’s Operation Linebacker II, created the miracle of “Hanoi – Dien Bien Phu in the air.” There were many factors led to this victory, but the most significant among them was our creative and unique air defense strategy

This year, our capital of Hanoi celebrates the 45th Anniversary of “Ha Noi – Dien Bien Phu Victory in the air” – a glorious triumph in our history of national defense. In December 1972, during the course of 12 days, the U.S. Military used B-52 bombers to conduct a strategic bombing campaign against targets in Hanoi Capital. Under the leadership of our Party, our military and people completely defeated this act of aggression, forcing the U.S. leadership to sign Paris Peace Accords to end their war efforts and restore peace in Vietnam
