Patrick Leahy, President Pro Tempore of the US Senate, wrapped up his productive five-day visit to Vietnam on April 20.In his working sessions with Vietnamese leaders, Leahy lauded the rising position and role of Vietnam in the region and the world, affirming that the US congress wishes to further multi-faceted cooperation with the country, especially its legislature, on the basis of comprehensive partnership set up by the two nations last July
US satisfied with thriving relations with Vietnam

The US House of Representatives has issued an official document on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the normalisation of ties with Vietnam, a rare move by the US Congress in its external relations with countries. The document noted that the US’s lifting of embargo on Vietnam on February 3, 1994 has ushered in a new period in the bilateral ties, paving the way for the establishment of the full diplomatic relations in July 1995.
