UN Secretary-General attends Vietnamese NA’s 9th session

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon hailed the role of the Vietnamese National Assembly, especially in the successful organisation of the 132nd Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly, while attending the ongoing ninth session of the 13th NA in Hanoi on May 23. 


He spoke highly of Vietnam’s achievements in implementing Millennium Development Goals as the leading country to fulfil the goals, believing that with its experience, the country will also one of the pioneers in implementing Sustainable Development Goals in the time ahead. 

Acknowledging Vietnam’s efforts to participate in the UN’s peacekeeping missions, the Secretary-General expressed his hope that the nation will maintain close coordination with the UN in this work. 

NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung thanked UN offices and the Secretary-General for supporting Vietnam to implement Millennium Development Goals. 

On the basis of respecting human rights, and the rights to democracy and freedom of all countries worldwide, Vietnam is always active in taking part in UN organisations and the Inter-Parliamentary Union, he added. 

In the morning, NA deputies discussed the revised Civil Procedure Code. 

Many stressed the need to clarify conditions for proceedings and proceeding procedures in different periods of trials. 

They also emphasised the importance of improving the quality of proceedings at trials to facilitate persons concerned to collect evidence to defend their legitimate interests. 

In the afternoon, lawmakers discussed the draft Law on Animal Health and heard a report on the law on temporary detention and arrest.
