Leaders send condolences to Malaysia over MH17 tragedy

President Truong Tan Sang on July 18 sent a message of condolences to Malaysian King Apdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah over the crash of the Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 that killed all passengers and crewmembers on board.

The same day, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh offered sympathies to their Malaysian counterparts Najib Tun Razak and Anifa Hj Aman, respectively.

PM Dung also sent his condolences to Prime Minister Mark Rutte of the Netherlands, which had the largest number of people killed in the accident.

Also on July 18, answering reporters’ questions related to the incident, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Le Hai Binh said Vietnam is extremely mournful over the tragedy.

“We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the Governments and people of countries whose citizens were killed in the accident as well as families of the victims,” he said.

The flight MH17, en route from Amsterdam, the Netherlands to Kuala Lumpur of Malaysia, came down on July 17 in eastern Ukraine.

According to the Malaysian Airlines, the incident claimed the lives of 298 people on board, including 154 Dutch people, 27 Australians, 28 Malaysians, 12 Indonesians, nine British people, four Germans, four Belgians, three Filipinos, and one Canadian. The other victims remained unidentified.
